Ulithorne, McLaren Vale

UK Stock & Ex Cellars available

The success of the 2001 vintage has been followed by an equally stunning 2002 and 2003. Sam’s family purchased the property in the 1960s and set about planting vines in 1971 but for various reasons nothing really happened and they were on the point of selling when Sam and his wife Rose decided to move from Adelaide and get the vineyard back into shape. After several years of hard work they have a mature vineyard of Shiraz and Cabernet they released their debut wine – Frux Frugis Shiraz. It is causing a real stir in Australia already and this is a name to watch.
"Is already being whispered about as a Cult-Wine-In-Waiting. It has heaps of rich, black fruit and smoky oak, and is plush and very McLaren Vale in style.” Max Allen

“The inaugural ’01 was a landmark for Mc Laren Shiraz styles, but this 2002 is, dare I say it, even finer and more impressive – phenomenal work” Matthew Jukes: matthewjukes.com

Battely, Beechworth

UK Stock available

Battely, Beechworth. Russell Bourne purchased the original Brown Brothers Everton Hills property and renamed the estate Battely after Captain Battely who had been instrumental in establishing Battely Town as the last staging post before arriving at the Goldfields. The first 4 acres were planted in 1998 to Syrah, Durif, Marsanne and Viognier with a further 4 acres of Syrah and Viognier planted in 2001. Infact three clones of Syrah have been planted including some from Best’s Great Western 1860 vines. A batch of Roussanne, Mourvedre, Grenache and Counoise from Beaucastel’s Tablas Creek vineyard have now finished their three year stint in quarantine and are currently being propagated. The wines are brilliant and they have not gone unnoticed in the US where Parker rated the inaugural release, the 2001 at 96 points. Domestic and international praise has continued with subsequent releases including 96 points from Parker for the declassified 2003 vintage labelled Sojourn.
